This week we did a quick overview of the book of Micah, but we spent most of our time looking in depth at Micah 6:8:
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Such a seemingly simple verse, but what power to change our lives if we believe it and attempt to live our lives in obedience to it. We dug deeply into the verse by looking at the meaning of each term, other verses that also talk about the same topic and finally how we can apply each challenge to our lives. Both the handouts and the full-page of the notes are at the bottom of this post.
Never easy, but so important to strive to please our Lord
Someday each of us will stand before Jesus. If we have trusted Him for our salvation, we have no fear of hell or damnation, but we will be evaluated for how we lived our lives and how we invested the gifts (spiritual and material) He gave us.

One we have the Holy Spirit in our life, we have the power to do all God wants us to do, but we still retain our free will and we choose whether we obey Him or not. Understanding and living out that balance is a continuous challenge in the Christian life, but a very important one as these verses remind us:
Phil 2:12: Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
1 Cor 3: 11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
In closing, we do well to remember that in Matt 25, parable of the talents—Jesus does not say “Well Done” to everyone, but those who invested their God-given gifts into a return pleasing to Jesus. Micah tells us how to do that: live justly, love kindness, walk humbly with your God.
